Part 1: Activist Campaign Tactics

In this section, we cover the most effective practices for a number of activist tactics, including crafting messaging strategies, hosting educational programs, conducting protests, targeting companies and institutions, targeting individuals to make behavioral changes, lobbying and influencing elected officials, and mobilizing voters.

Not all sections will be relevant to every activist, but reading every section may help you develop a better understanding of how to effectively approach your activism work. Some useful activist tactics we were unable to find research on—this does not mean you shouldn’t use these tactics, but you will need to monitor your success closely to ensure that your efforts are making an impact. We will update the guide as new activism research becomes available.

Let’s start with messaging strategies, since almost every organization and movement can benefit from strengthening their messaging.
